Service Dog Training
Canine Defined trains service dogs that can assist people with physical, neurological, or psychological disabilities with everyday tasks that may otherwise be challenging. Your pet can be evaluated for suitability for service dog work, or we can help you select the ideal candidate to suit your needs.
Types of Service Dogs Trained
Physical and/or Neurological:

Mobility Assistance- Individually trained to assist a person with a physically or neurologically limiting disability, these service dogs provide support in completing common tasks that would otherwise be difficult. Proficiencies include retrieving dropped items, turning on lights, pulling open doors, etc.

Autism Support- Individually trained for a person with Autism spectrum related disorders, with the ability to help in many aspects of the individual’s life. Proficiencies include giving tactile pressure, providing balance support, alerting or distracting from self-stimulation/self-harm behaviors, etc.

Medical Alert:

Psychiatric Service Dog- Individually trained to assist individuals with psychiatric disabilities, these service dogs provide support during episodes of extreme anxiety, empowering their handlers to navigate situations they would otherwise struggle to manage independently Individuals that would benefit from the use of a psychiatric service dog are generally those who have been diagnosed with a psychological condition such as post-traumatic stress or chronic anxiety. Proficiencies include alert to rising anxiety levels, providing body blocking, alert to people approaching from behind, and much more.

Emergency Response Service Dog- These dogs are individually trained to provide support in an emergency situation due to a medical condition or disability. Proficiencies include executing a predetermined set of actions to indicate the handler’s condition to a caregiver or person nearby, respond appropriately by retrieving needed medications, or activate a specialized medical alert system. Emergency response service dogs can be trained to mitigate symptoms of many disabilities or illnesses including seizures, heart conditions, and asthma.
***The Americans with Disabilities Act defines a service animal “as any dog or miniature horse that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability, including a physical, sensory, psychiatric, intellectual, or other mental disability. Tasks or work are the specific commands or behaviors taught to mitigate symptoms of a handler’s disability.

Online Service Dog Training Program
Professional & Accessible Support for Owner-Trainers
High quality, individualized, online canine training for qualified individuals aimed at assisting an owner in self-training a service dog. This program will encompass all levels of training required to raise and train a service dog prospect and to prepare a team to be successful at home and in public settings.
How does it work?

Approximately 18 months total
-
3 Training Levels, 6 months each
-
3 sets of classes at each level, 2 months in duration each, designed to build on previous skills learned

6 Month self-study period with biweekly trainer check in’s and feedback when needed
